King (or queen) of the castle
Think back to your childhood … you probably spent plenty of time outdoors playing, imagining and just being a kid! We all know how beneficial it can be for our kids to spend time outside playing, rather than inside, glued to electronic devices. Remember all the tree houses, lookouts and forts that we created to provide hours of fun? Nowadays there are even cooler options for kids.
Nowadays play sets exist with multiple slides, swings and climbing walls with safety ropes that give us parents a little peace of mind. Many also offer various swings for toddlers up through bigger kids to enjoy. Some of the larger models prove ideal for both backyards and shared neighborhood communities.
According to Dean Raber of Raber Patios, Shipshewana, play sets can vary greatly in size and can accommodate just about any budget. “Play sets are available in wood, vinyl and metal,” Raber explains. “We carry Weaver Playsets in vinyl, Backyard Creations in wood and Lifetime in metal.”
CONSIDER YOUR OPTIONS
When choosing a play set, consider the size of the yard you have and how simple or involved you want the construction to be. “There are lots of styles to choose from, anything from a simple A-frame to a huge multi-tower play set,” Raber says. “You could spend anywhere from $600 to $22,000, and you can custom design your own swing set, picking out all your options. There are lots of choices to make like roof material, slide size and style, swings, vinyl colors, floor colors, stain, ladder style, plus lots more. Most people like to have at least one tower and slide on their set.”
As Raber says, metal is an option for your play set, but now there are other materials available as well. In addition to quality construction, these modern play sets are made of kid-friendly materials. No more burning legs on hot metal slides or metal chains pinching little fingers. Rainbow also makes small backyard castles, clubhouses and customizable sets with just about any feature you can imagine: monkey bars, tire swings, lookouts, rope walls and so much more.
So when the weather allows this summer, encourage the kids to get outside and just be kids! Consider a play set or backyard castle and let their imaginations be free and nourish their own creativity while playing out in the fresh air, just like we did.
